Lac La Biche County names the hamlets of Lac La Biche and Plamondon as its urban service areas. The Hudson's Bay Company built a fort here in 1799, which the County says makes Lac La Biche the second-oldest permanent settlement in Alberta, and Highways 36, 55 and 881 meet just outside the hamlet.
The County's Municipal Development Plan says development in the hamlet must be on municipal water and wastewater, and its Water and Sewer Connection Policy, amended in 2017, says all existing hamlet residential development must connect. In 2024 the Hervey Marchildon water treatment plant served about 1,100 residential and commercial users through more than 120 km of pipe, and County staff said new PVC pipe was replacing cast-iron pipe more than 70 years old.
In 2024 the County announced it would switch its water disinfection from chlorine to chloramine that spring, and advised that chloramine must be removed before water is used in kidney dialysis machines and that aquarium owners filter it out. The County's Backflow Preventor Subsidy Program, aimed at protecting homes from sewer line back-up, provides up to $1,000 to install interior backflow preventors, and its 2026 Green Rebate gives County residents $150 on an eligible water heater and $400 on a furnace or boiler, plus a 10 per cent bonus if the purchase is made at a local Lac La Biche County retailer. Both are County programs with County rules; Green Rebate applications are due by January 15, 2027.

Lines on private property are the owner's responsibility, and Royal Flush handles that plumbing.
Lac La Biche County runs its own natural gas system, which serves the hamlet and many surrounding rural subdivisions, and the provincial utilities map shows the hamlet in the County's franchise area. If you smell gas, leave the building and call 911 and the County from outside. Once it is safe, Royal Flush can repair gas lines and furnaces.
